This article (Click on SEX AND DRUGS!: Broke up?...) describes an experiment where volunteers were asked to look at photos of romantic scenes while having brain imaging performed. Sure enough, the area of the brain most affected by these pictures is the SAME as the area that is affected by drug addiction.
Phenylethylamine (PEA) levels rise when a person is in love. PEA is a brain chemical that leads to euphoria. People can certainly be "addicted" to this euphoric feeling-what's not to like about that?
